Why do we spend so much time thinking about what we like to eat. When all we should be focusing on is getting enough of the right fuel into our bodies in order to function at our best. It appears that for many of us the only pleasure we have is what we eat!

In order for your car to run efficiently, it not only needs the right fuel IE; petrol, diesel, or electricity (and I know many of us have got this wrong!!) Water in the radiator, oil for the engine, engine coolant, brake fluid for the brakes, screen wash and water in the right bottle, anti freeze too! Quite a few things to get right, and make no mistake if we mix it up, there will definitely be severe consequences.
This is also true of our bodies. In order to function at it’s very best, we should be focusing on getting the optimum amount of nutrients, vitamins and minerals each day. The darker days are when we are the most vulnerable to germs, infections and illness, but it’s also the time we tend to seek stodgy, filling and comforting foods which may not provide those crucial components we need to stay healthy.
All we appear to be concentrating on is ” what do I fancy ” which can mean the whole day is spent mentally thinking about the choices we have, which may lead to unwise choices being made as that’s all we’ve thought about. Recognising the value of food as purely fuel may actually lead to lessening the focus of food as purely pleasure. After all you don’t pop a chocolate bar in the fuel tank of your car after a long journey as a thank you!! Yet somehow, we have used those types of food as both reward and punishment for ourselves!

It’s also true that to compensate for the lack of nutrients, vitamins etc, it’s really easy to use a supplement to re- balance what we’re lacking! When actually we should be looking at our food to provide them.
We are spending far too much energy, time and effort thinking about food. which maybe diverting us from actually taking pleasure in the many other areas of our lives. Time to put it in it’s it’s rightful place….IT IS FUEL!!
Eat to fuel your body, not feed your emotions.

I heard a radio programme recently where they investigated vitamin supplements. They said the only one worth taking was vitamin D. The rest are a waste of time and yu can get what you need from eating the right food.

Yes I’ve just been told to have vitamin D. Time for a spring clean better food choices. It’s so easy to reach for the carbs in the winter. Eat well feel well.

Having just had a few days of rather too many “treats”, batches of soup and chilli made today with loads of veg and pulses in each to try and pull back. I also find having the fruit and veg does give me more tigger style energy 🐯🐯x

Too true, if you think of food as fuel then it reduces the obsession that many have around eating. For me removing food as a source of entertainment leaves more time for alternatives, walking, dancing swimming eTC. It’s very hard to snack when swimming🤣🤣
