Chapters….

Our lives are often compared to the chapters of a book, childhood, adulthood and senior age, when you look back over the chapters that have already been written to the point you are now, would you change the story so far? In what way? Do you think that it would have any impact on your life now? Is there a chapter so far that you really enjoyed more than any other?

Do you find yourself saying things to your children/grandchildren your parents and grandparents said to you? Does it frustrate you when they don’t listen? Probably just as ours did when we ignored them too!! The voice of experience is usually just that – experience! Isn’t that where we acquire most of life’s skills??

Often, with the beauty of hindsight, it’s easy to see past mistakes and the choices that could have been made differently and also the consequences of those decisions. Whilst it’s not possible to alter the chapters that have been written, it IS possible to learn from them and to try and make this the best chapter possible, and you have the benefit of all your knowledge, skills and experience.

It’s often in the final chapters of a book that the who;e story comes together. I think of it a bit a like the old fashioned drawstring purse/bag being pulled tight.Keeping everything together and complete.

All too often it seems to be that you forget exactly WHO is writing your book!! If your life was really a book would you allow anyone else to have the pen? Or not have proof read before you agreed to go to print? Don’t forget, in life you can’t undo your chapters, only work on making each new one better than before, or as good as possible. There is a famous quote that says:

At the time he wrote this, it was based on his impression of the young, in fact he said of them “they’re brainless, and don’t know what they have; they squander every opportunity of being young, on being young”

Having the benefit of experience I would if I could re-write my early chapters to have been not just the weight, but also the confidence and self esteem I have now.

It’s important to remember that you can’t change the previous chapters of your story, but you can learn from them and begin to re-write the chapter you are on right now!!

  1. based on a famous saying, yesterday is history – we must learn from history; tomorrow is still a mystery – in our hands to shape our future; today is a gift to ourselves, it is the present for us to nurture.

  2. Reading this seemed quite deep and thoughtful. Thinking of the chapters in life from childhood to adulthood. The changes you have to make or not depending on your lifestyle. Looking back I’m glad I changed my chapters in life
