Whether you think you can or you think you can’t – YOU ARE RIGHT!!!

Your mind is a powerful thing and what you tell yourself or believe can either hinder or support your journey.

As we get ever closer to Christmas with all the frivolities, parties, and entertaining which all involves food and drink more of you are going to be thinking I can’t stay focused and eat healthily because it’s Christmas and because that’s what you think that is exactly what will happen. That is a fixed Mindset. Another way of describing it is “a self-fulfilling prophecy” and this is something that is being widely considered in secondary schools at the moment. A child who is told constantly that they are rubbish academically – becomes academically rubbish. That simply is not true or fair!

Consider how we can change this to a more positive way of thinking – a growth mindset – challenge the fixed thought and turn it into a growth one as this will ultimately give us better results.

So many of you must have had the thought cross your minds on the run up to Christmas there is no point going to my meeting this week as its going to be a weight gain, and because we think it’s going to be a weight gain we make sure it damn well is.

And then Christmas is even closer so it’s going to be even more difficult so I’ll go back in January when it will have significant impact on not just your journey, but also your feeling of self esteem and confidence and you will then start off the New Year feeling like a failure and also a fair bit heavier too!

A lot of work has gone into help you change that thinking in our meetings, you have already acquired new behaviours and have skills to enable you to dispel these fixed ideas, it’s time to put them into practice!

Ultimately if you have made the best choices possible under the circumstances, and are really proud of yourself, regardless of whether the scales reflect it or not, you should have the knowledge that your success is not solely dependent on numbers!

You are more than just a number on the scales. If you constantly tell yourself you can’t – you won’t! Try to think about things in a more positive light and your progress will be positive!
