De-Stress

With not many weeks left to the big day you might be feeling a little overwhelmed with “To Do” lists right now.

There is so much to think about at this time of year, and we risk putting our weight loss on hold to focus on the crazy Christmas rush-around instead.

We have worked hard to get where we are and there’s no good reason why we can’t continue on this journey in the coming weeks

The closer Christmas comes the more stressed we get! Stress is the enemy of weight loss, so to lose weight, calm down!

When we’re stressed, our bodies are awash with cortisol, the stress hormone which is known to trigger appetite and make the not-so-healthy food even more appealing. Chronic stress is also linked to abdominal fat, and some studies suggest that stress makes the body burn fewer calories. While it’s difficult to avoid getting stressed we need to have a strategy to help make the next few weeks as stress free as possible.

If we are serious about losing weight then we seriously need to look at ways of reducing our stress levels.

Think of a song that puts you in a good place put it on and go and boogie to it – release those feel-good endorphins!

Stress appears to be a natural part of our life, the key to being successful is not being a victim to it and finding tactics and strategies that help. Interestingly, the tingle that comes from being excited is very similar to the stress hormone!!

It’s not stress that kills us, it is our reaction to it.

  1. Stress is one of my biggest nemesis. I’ve had a few over time. I like to go for a walk out to clear my head or as the post says put on my favourite tune and boogie 😊

  2. I actually started and finished a jigsaw this week… it was a great way to de-stress and keep my mind away from food, which is great for me 😊

  3. I really struggle to sit and do nothing so find it hard to feel relaxed sometimes, but I find cross stitch a very mindful activity to help switch off.

  4. I’m a terrible stress eater. It helps once you realise it! My favourite de-stresser is taking a nice walk with the dogs (unless it’s peeing down like it has done today!)

    1. I can’t wait till Christmas as I am retiring so will have no stress about work, which means I don’t have to say I can’t do this or that because of work.So if I feel stressed I can go for a walk or do my jigsaw and get myself into a routine so I don’t reach for the biscuits .
