At your convenience…

Something we should focus on is an important challenge for many of us convenience foods. Sometimes even the best laid plans go adrift and we need to have something available that’s quick and easy. We need to make sure every meal is mentally and physically satisfying, You could eat 6 bags of lettuce and be full, but would you really be satisfied? Physical and Mental Satisfaction

Does a convenience meal suggest to you..

  • Ready meals from the freezer
  • Something quick easy and fast.

Choosing ready meals from the freezer when you are being mindful of the type of food that is often higher caloried then if you made it yourself, the tendency is to look for a the “healthy option” Most supermarkets and well known brands all produce various products. However, it can also mean that it will be less satisfying and filling and that may lead to unplanned snacking! Sometimes the better choice could be something that you will really enjoy and feel more satisfied making the need to snack more unlikely. If possible to contribute to a healthier meal simply add some vegetables, why not try steamed, fresh, frozen, or even tinned! The important aspect to keep in mind is that convenience meals are not the enemy, they DO fill a need and rather plan to eat one of them rather than eating unplanned and unwisely!

The best and most obvious option is making your own, which is cheaper, more filling and is often a bigger meal that everybody else in the house will eat it as well and is more satisfying it’s a win win situation for you. Have a look at the past articles Bulk cooking for plenty of ideas, there’s also Slow Cooking Summer… all of these could easily be portioned and frozen for whenever you need them.

If you want a weight loss you have to work for it, when we continually try for the easy no work option the results are not always as good, but rather than mindless eating a good ready meal may be just the ticket!

Nothing tastes as good as a weight loss feels!!

  1. I definitely use ready meals as a quick meal especially when I’m struggling with my health, much better than turning to cheese and crackers. I buy the taste the difference range and add vegetables. Or the nice M&S ones.

  2. I always try to make my own meals myself so I know what’s gone into it, but have to admit I have on the occasion chose the ready meal option purely for quickness

  3. for me ready meals are a winter option but I do use left overs and freeze something to

use later. A pizza or filled pasta is a treat and I use them as a treat, occasionally. A jacket potato is the best ready meal for me with tuna and sweetcorn

  4. I used to buy the WW meals as a “go-to” option but they were never very filling. It’s much better to have your own meals in the freezer (if you have the time to make them) that you can grab for quickness. I agree with Gill, a jacket potato is a good option too!
