Autumn Blues???

As the late summer sunshine gives way to the chilly Autumn mornings and nights, it’s time to re-think your planned meals. Throughout the summer, you may have developed a wonderful routine of eating, only to find that as the nights draw in, they’re not quite satisfying you both physically or mentally. If that’s you, then you need to go back to the drawing board to discover what WILL work for you Soup,Stews and Casseroles slow-cooker. Or even take a look at the Slow Cooking Summer… All of these contain great ideas to keep you full and satisfied with the minimum of of effort. In fact many of our members can’t wait to get re- acquainted with their favourites from last year. Or why not Google recipes for some alternative recipes. The beauty of following a healthy and balanced plan is that you have the knowledge to replace high fat, high calorie ingredients with superb lower caloried alternatives. There’s so many delicious root vegetables that can really stretch out your meals as well as adding loads of flavour!

This season brings different challenges, so be ready to embrace them as little hurdles to get over, rather than being impossible. Look at the newer appliances that we have to play with……

Air Fryers!!!!

Many of us now own one, and it has taken me a while to adjust my thinking from a microwave! It really is a mini oven. Not sure how to use it? Loads of tips on the Internet, as well as books available both in shops and online. Be adventurous, get creative…. Look at the previous posts to jazz your meals up, Herbs…. and Spices…. add flavour, without additional calories that the whole family can enjoy.

Get out and enjoy those different sounds and smells and colours that come with Autumn, remember, walking is one of the best activities available, it’s free, you don’t need expensive clothes or shoes to do it, and extra activity Will change your shape as well as help boost your endorphins. Activity is an essential part of a well balanced healthy plan, so get out there and enjoy!

  1. My favourite time of the year 😀. Just made up a batch of soup with a mix of vegetables including roasted pumpkin. Now simmering away on the stove. Should get about 8-9 portions out of it.

    And we are lucky to live where we do with so many areas to walk – Conkers, Calke, Staunton Harold, and various other trails using disused train/tram tracks. The colours of the trees at the moment are lovely.
