Winter Solstice

Whilst many of us dread the Winter arriving, the short cold days and the long dark nights can be seen as either an obstacle or an opportunity. Of course you may be spending more time inside and the added temptation of the snacks that are so challenging to resist!! Or how about different ways to invest your time?? Looking after you? Relaxation, massage, manicure, facial, pedicure, reading? Getting out there and enjoying the crisp days, remember, ALL sunshine, even if it’s winter sunshine is a great source of Vitamin D. How SAD are you? Or maybe its time to start that hobby that you’ve always wanted to either do, or used to do! Have a little read of this Idle Hands?

Here’s a glimmer of hope….

This year, the Winter Solstice is on the 21st December at precisely 3.03 pm and this is the shortest day, and then we will begin to gain daylight!! On average it is 2 minutes and 7 seconds a day, which adds up to approximately 1 hour each month. By the time we reach the Spring Equinox in March (Sunday 29th to be exact) the total daylight gain is 3 hours and 17 minutes.

Here’s some saying and proverbs connected to Winter…

  • Deep snow in winter; tall grain in summer. —Estonian proverb
  • Visits should be short, like a winter’s day.
  • A fair day in winter is the mother of a storm. —English proverb
  • Summer comes with a bound; winter comes yawning.
  • Onion skins very thin, mild winter coming in.

These days will pass and we can either make them “productive” or “destructive” and it IS your decision. All too soon it will be a New Year and a New Start!! summer-bodies It would be amazing if you had been productive and were not starting the New Year on the back foot, and YOU KNOW CAN DO IT!!!
