Year of the Rabbit….

This year is the Chinese year of the Water Rabbit, and according to the Chinese horoscope this year brings a good year for all the fellow zodiac signs as well as an extremely lucky year for most of them. The sign of the rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace, prosperity and 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope.

Fortune cookies are also associated with the Chinese New Year, the ones I’ve read are often that cryptic I can’t understand it, so have to keep eating them until I either find one I like or understand. Is our fortune in the hands of the Universe, zodiac or God? How much is actually down to each individual and the choices they make and paths they choose?

Chinese food in general will not cause a weight gain, however what you choose and frequency of eating it may do. The good thing about Chinese food is that it’s mostly self explanatory ie; egg fried rice’ and sweet and sour balls and regular partakers will know which are the healthier choices! Balancing the rest of the day/week will mean that having a Chinese meal or takeaway needn’t spoil your weight loss.

Until the arrival of fast food there were no obese Chinese people! Could that also be down to the way they they eat? Chopsticks to slow them down, and also they serve the food in large bowls in the center of the table and take what they need! See our previous blog Whats on your plate?

Do you have to eat like a rabbit to be able to lose weight? Obviously not, in fact there is no evidence that nibbling all day is conducive to weight loss, unless of course it’s grass/lettuce!

Do you need to be as active as a rabbit to be able to lose weight? Actually a rabbit can run approximately 5 miles a day, so again not really it’s all about being more active than you are at present, but within a safe margin and build up slowly. Maybe start a new routine and lets hop to it!!

  1. I discovered at the weekend that I am a goat! Not sure about that – I remember visiting goats at a local farm shop when I should have been revising for my A levels. I used to have a flapjack (in the days I could eat anything and stay stick thin) and the goats ate the paper bag. Maybe paper bags is a bit drastic for a weight loss strategy but I won’t be like a goat in 2023 and eat absolutely anything!!!

  2. We will be having a Chinese this weekend and will enjoy it, but knowing that we will be going out for food at the weekend helps us to plan for it. Fingers crossed it won’t have a negative impact on my weight loss xx
