Gratitude can change your Attitude

Sometimes it’s worth taking a step back to smell the roses!! In our busy humdrum and often mundane lives, all too quickly time passes by and it’s another day, week, month or even season and so many things have passed us by. Being more mindful is taking a few moments out to be grateful for at least 5 things can make a world of difference to the attitude you go forward with in your life. It takes some practice, and is usually starting off with the really small things like the birds singing, blue sky etc. If you are struggling, have a look at just a few examples in the picture above

It’s all too easy to get caught up in “It’s not fair” attitude to this journey, But simply turning it around in your mind makes the changes so much easier if it will get you where you need to be. We have 52 weeks each year to achieve great things! There will be days and possibly weeks that may be more challenging than others, but there will always be challenges, so instead of seeing them as obstacles that get in the way, see them more as – how do I get round this!

When your mindset is in a more positive place, it’s so much easier to make better choices and being grateful for the small things in life that we may take for granted can only help to reinforce the feelgood factor leading us towards a more positive and productive mindset.

When it comes to our health one of the many bonuses to carrying extra weight can be the “heads up” to make lifestyle changes and consider our options. People who are naturally slim may not be as fortunate, and because they don’t have the warning of gaining weight, may not feel they need to make better choices often leading to long-term damage to their health. In effect we should be grateful we have a weight problem, as we will make changes to our diet and lifestyle which of course leads to better overall health and well-being. Medication, all to often is the 1st go to, rather than looking at what lifestyle changes could minimise the need for tablets, as sadly a lot of medication can have undesirable side effects.

In general, doing more activity can only be a benefit to health, lifestyle and well-being, the sense of achievement and satisfaction to go and do something active, and the release of those feelgood endorphins can act as boost to your mood, release stress and tension. Activity does all of those, but more, you are less likely to make an unwise choice when you’ve put in so much effort and enthusiasm. Over time your general shape will change (so well worth whipping out that tape measure and recording your measurements) Check them every 6 weeks or so, and together with your healthier eating habits the new you will be emerging.

It’s easy to be ungrateful, but everything we’ve looked at in this article is within your grasp. It’s not magic or a miracle, and it will take time, but if we look for reasons to be grateful, I’m confident there will be too many to list!

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

  1. Loved reading this article. It makes you reflect on how really grateful you are for everything on this journey from family and friends you meet along the way and life in itself. I’m forever grateful for the family and friends I have made in my meetings. Without all of you and the support I have I wouldn’t be were I am today. I’ve had my share of struggles and strains but have carried on and refocused. Made sure I’ve stepped back on things that have not gone right and focused on the positives. Making sure food and activity are balanced.
