Watching the adverts on TV on the run up to Christmas, it surprises me how many people rush out to take delivery of a brand new sofa, furniture and flooring ready for all those guests to wreck over the festive period!!!

But, having asked the question, many of us DO have a mini spring clean to get our homes both ‘Santa ready’ and of course guests ready. The oven tends to require special attention, especially when you discover your ‘self clean’ oven really isn’t and requires elbow grease and plenty of it!! Looking fabulous, you can actually see whats in it!!

Cobwebs!!!! Why is it they appear overnight! Feather duster in hand and off you jolly well go! How can dust get right up on top of the curtains?? Bane of my life is clear glass light shades – definitely need the Christmas Fairy to work their magic!

Leather sofa all sparkling – ready for someone to spill their drink on! Skirting boards wiped down. Rug/carpet prepped ready for shake ‘ n’ vac!
Tried wiping the walls down to remove grubby fingerprints and it’s removed most of the paint!!! Off to B & Q… Wasn’t part of the plan!

Got the old faithful Windolene out for a “smear free” finish, NOT!! They must have changed to formula!
Time to de-clutter the kitchen especially the sides in anticipation of needing space to dish up that gourmet Christmas lunch.
In fact it’s a marathon before you even get started on preparing for the main event. Small wonder you feel drained and exhausted! The worst of it is, you’re so busy running around getting organised, you’ve forgotten the most important focus… YOU and your healthy eating. When we’re distracted it’ easy to make do with anything that’s going. not necessarily healthy, satisfying or filling, often snack foods that are high fat/high sugar and empty calories, leaving you feeling disappointed – which can lead to eating more of the same and abandoning all dreams of a “lighter” Christmas!
Take some time to be mindful of YOUR needs as well as putting all the effort into others!!
Here’s to remembering that the Big Christmas clean up can apply to you’re eating habits as well as your home!
Self-care means giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you.
