As the festive season comes along, it may be time to check out the board games you’ve packed up in the attic after last year…..
Playing games with your family and friends is a great way to stave off boredom, and we know how boredom can affect our food choices Idle Hands?
And whilst we are talking about playing games.
Losing weight and focusing on healthy eating relates to so many of the well-loved games we’ve all played
When you look at a snakes and ladders board, you’ll see you go up the ladders and down the snakes
A snake could be. No time to lose weight – this is all about ball juggling to make time and it’s absolutely crucial when life is chaotic!
Another snake – oversized portions – eyes are bigger than your belly!
There is no reason to be hungry, being hungry is one of the easiest snakes to fall down – but you have to ask yourself is it need or greed and if you are hungry is it that you are not satisfied with what you have eaten.
Which takes us back to many of our previous blogs, planning ahead, choosing wisely, square meals and of course physical and mental satisfaction!
More snakes – Don’t give up and don’t give in – instead of “I would if I could” it needs to be “I can and I will”.
We all know that weight loss success can depend upon where our heads are at the moment. but it’s also not allowing those unhelpful habits and behaviours to creep in, instead focusing on what’s worked up to now, and a few minutes relaxation can put you in the right frame of mind.
Most of us know the story about the little engine, who needed to pull a heavy load up a hill, but the hill was too steep and the load was to heavy, but he just kept going and saying to himself “I can and I will, I can and I will” and before he knew it he was at the top of the hill.
There will always be snakes that cause us to slip backwards in our weight loss efforts but if you are prepared to look then there is always a solution/ladder that could help us.
But let’s start at the very beginning, it may feel too early to be buying Christmas food but if you have been conned into advanced buying and eating it then remember that snake for next year.
For many of us Christmas starts with the buying of the presents
But not just any present – the perfect present
The perfect present needs to be something that the person really wants/needs.
In fact I bet all the children have got lists of what they want and it grows bigger day by day depending upon what’s on the TV
If you were making a Christmas list – what would be on your list of perfect presents? It’s so important that we are realistic about what we want/hope to achieve. If you set yourself an unachievable goal/wish list, then you set yourself up for disappointment – another snake. I would assume that one of the perfect presents for us would be to be lighter.
Remember that in order to win any game, you have to have winning strategies
When you know what is achievable then you need to have in place the strategies to win. In other words, the ladders!
When it comes to playing any game you need to know the rules, and you have to want to play, but the whole object of any game is to win.
Losing weight is not a game but if you can find strategies to help avoid the snakes and use the ladders instead then you will ultimately find the success you seek. In fact, the Best Christmas present you could give yourself. But you have to believe in yourself before you can achieve your dreams.

Made me smile, loved the analogies with the board games. I love a family game, Cluedo and Monopoly are my favourite. I’m going to keep my eyes out for those ladders we all need a helping hand sometimes
