Why do we fail?

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts

winston churchill

There are various reasons why so many people abandon a challenge that they have set themselves;

  • It’s a much bigger challenge than expected
  • It’s too restrictive and doesn’t allow for ‘ normal ‘ life
  • The results aren’t coming as fast as I want
  • I don’t have the time to commit
  • It’s boring
  • My lifestyle gets in the way
  • My family and friends don’t support me
  • I don’t feel any different

Just for a moment, take a step back and imagine someone you know quite well, a friend, is giving you those reasons for giving up whatever aim they had, how do you think you would respond? Would you tell them that actually they are right, why bother?? Odds are you wouldn’t, it’s much more likely you would remind them why they had this aim in the first place.

This is not necessarily about losing weight, this could relate to a new job, learning to drive, going to school or university, in fact anything that requires change!! Or is considered to be a challenge.

Sadly to achieve any of them involves serious commitment, long term changes to the behaviours that caused it, and belief that it will be worth all the energy, hard work and compromises you invested. All too often the ‘diet culture’ is seen as a quick fix, just follow this and you will get the results you want. Bear in mind, that the plan you’ll follow will not feature the food and drink you have been enjoying which caused you to gain weight in the first place. How successful is that strategy long term?

Most of us know, as that’s usually why we are heavier than we were when we first started ‘dieting’. The real secret is not to see this journey as a punishment, more of an opportunity to reap so many benefits along the way, better health, better self-esteem and confidence, smaller clothes sizes and so much more. With , this is a journey we go on together with many like-minded members who are disenchanted with the ‘diet culture’, who know that change is needed to achieve the best results, who come and stay to weekly meetings to gain advice, guidance, support, encouragement, fun, to learn new behaviours, techniques and strategies, and all in a non-judgmental group.

One of the most important skills to learn is that ‘You ARE WORTH IT’

So yes, there will be changes you’ll need to make, will they be horrific? No, Will you starve? No, Will you feel deprived? No, Will you be dieting? No…..

You must be thinking, where’s the magic!!!!

YOU ARE THE MAGIC! It’s easy to make changes in order to achieve what you most want, and if that’s long-term weight loss you only need to keep your focus at all times. make compromises with your food choices because you want to, not because you have to be! Be more active because you are loving the way it makes you feel! Making sure you are getting a minimum of 5 fruit and vegetables each day and thoroughly enjoying the variety, taste and textures, getting all of those vital nutrients and vitamins. Knocking back those glasses of water, feeling hydrated and younger as your skin plumps and firms! Becoming more creative with your meal ideas, trying new recipes and ingredients. Making sure you’re enjoying filling and satisfying meals using all the tools at your disposal. Learning how to swap high caloried ingredients for lower ones whilst still keeping the flavours.

In a nutshell…… Loving becoming the YOU you’ve always dreamed of… But this time not failing!!!!

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

  1. Love this – I am enjoying being back in the zone this year. That doesn’t mean I am being perfect but just know I am taking steps, no matter how small, in the right direction.

  4. Fail is an acronym for First Attempt in Learning. Looking at what we’ve done before and recognising that it didn’t work is a great way to realise that we need to change. Interesting read to remind us that we need to keep trying
