Choose Your Hard….

Our journey through life may frequently be described as “difficult, challenging and even hard” There is a saying that goes…

Despite it being all those things, somehow, miraculously we manage to get through, mostly unscathed, but maybe wiser!!

Here are some of the things that are often said are “hard” when it comes to changing your lifestyle, habits and behaviours …

It’s too hard to….

  • Be more active,
  • Shop wisely,
  • Plan meals,
  • Drink more water,
  • Prepare and cook healthy meals,
  • Write a food diary,
  • Limit snacking,
  • Eat your 5 a day,
  • Make the effort,
  • Change my behaviour,
  • Be consistent,
  • Make better choices,
  • Not eat cakes/biscuits/chocolate,
  • Limit my alcohol intake,
  • Get a better variety of foods,
  • To take control,
  • To stay focused
  • Resist temptation
  • It’s the week-end
  • It’s my birthday (or actually any celebration you can think of Always a Reason….)
  • It’s my hormones
  • It’s my holiday

So, let’s take an unbiased, honest view of how being overweight is “hard”…

It’s too hard to….

  • Walk, run, play with the children/grandchildren/pet,
  • To bend down,
  • To get a good night’s sleep,
  • To get up,
  • To get dressed,
  • To choose clothes,
  • To buy/try on clothes,
  • To sit comfortably,
  • To travel by car/plane/boat,
  • Go upstairs/downstairs,
  • Go shopping for food,
  • To plan meals,
  • To cook meals,
  • Be in constant pain,
  • Continually take medication,
  • Have no energy,
  • Have no enthusiasm for life,
  • To cope with summer and the long hot days,
  • Have no self-worth,
  • Have no confidence or self esteem,
  • Feel older than your years’,
  • Feel poorly and uncomfortable,
  • To take control,
  • To feel weak and helpless,
  • To feel a failure,
  • To watch life passing you by,

It seems that both lists have lots of similarities but its all about perspective yes it might be too hard to be more active but if you are overweight then the alternative is that you struggle to be more active – whats that saying “Use it or Lose it!”

Basically its time for you to chose your HARD!!!!!

If you keep making the excuse that its too hard to eating healthily or change your behaviours and habits then be prepared to have to face whats hard about being overweight!

If you don’t sort it then who will

  1. There have been many times when I have felt like some of the things in the lists above. But I have managed to get back up and refocus on what I want most. Keep going to your meetings and stay if you can. Being with others in the same boat as you really does help 😊
