Achieving a Weight Loss for life…. Not just for Summer!!

Several of our members join us specifically to lose weight for their summer holidays, all too often that can lead them to make drastic and restrictive changes to the way they eat in order to achieve the desired results on the scales. Sadly, as we so frequently discuss, the negatives of taking measures that are a world away from the lifestyle, food and drink we enjoy usually lead to gaining more weight than was lost, which, in turn leaves us feeling a failure, losing confidence and newfound self esteem. All or Nothing?

Our aim at is to develop new behaviours, new strategies and different skills to enable us to think differently about the journey, the mindset, the goals and aims as well as the destination. By focusing purely on the destination it’s easy to lose sight of those small changes and successes that make this journey so amazing!!

Abandoning all thoughts of mindful eating and behaviours whilst on holiday will not only lead to weight gain, it also makes it challenging to get back in the focused mindset necessary to take back control. Excess baggage caused by no control will always come home with you!!

Let’s consider how we CAN have some level of control on holiday. We have asked this question in our weekly meetings – what is the most important part of your holiday? Rarely is food and drink the priority! So why allow it to be!!

Meals, try and eat regularly and avoid snacking. 5 a day, might not be doable every day, but look for ways to incorporate them were you can. Stay hydrated is a must wherever you are on holiday, obviously, it is easier in a warmer climate, but if you’ve already built that habit make every attempt to keep it! Activity, again, if you’ve built a routine try and get some in. Make it fun, do something different and most of all enjoy it! Of course your holiday should be different to being at home, but if you let everything go, it can feel quite overwhelming to start over!

Possibly the most important factor in making sure your weight loss is for life and not just for holidays is planning to RETURN to your meeting, to regain your focus and your purpose!!

This year make sure ALL your excess baggage is in your case…. YOU’RE NOT WEARING IT!!

  1. Taking the Grandkids to Haven for the week tomorrow staying in a caravan. I am planning our food and having a click & collect on arrival to ensure that we have lots of healthy options available rather than the “usual” seaside food. That doesn’t mean we won’t have fish & chips though! With the additional activity, I am hoping this will give me a good result on return.
